A Six-Turtle Walk

By Stephanie • June 6th, 2008 Email this post Email this post Print this post Print this post

What with all the rain and warm nights this week, my walk around the lake this morning was filled with turtle sightings. Most were safely swimming around the marshes, or sunning on a slimy rock. But one dummy was sitting right on the double-yellow line in the center of the road. Who knows how long it had been there, but it did not look like it was going to get to the other side any time soon. I remembered the huge mess of a turtle roadkill I witnessed last summer, and decided to spare this one from a similar fate. I picked it up and deposited it in the grass on the side of the road it had been facing. Here’s hoping it finds what it’s looking for over there.

Why does a turtle cross the road?
